History of The Peak
At first, during 1870’s and 1880’s, Victoria Peak was the favorite summer destination for wealthy residents of Hong Kong where they could take advantage of the cool and humid climate of the Peak. Later on, in 1881, Mr. Alexander Findlay Smith started a petition to the Governor, Sir John Pope-Hennessy to build tram routs. Thus, it was easier for pedestrians to move throughout the mountain and more people tended to visit the Victoria Peak due to the easier transportation. Then, gradually the Peak became famous for its amazing view of the city and the Victoria Harbor.
